Khudi Bari

Bangladesh lies within the densely populated delta of South Asia’s major river systems. Each year, large areas of land are lost to erosion and rising sea levels driven by climate change. Ecosystems are transformed, settlements destroyed, and entire communities displaced. Against this backdrop, Marina Tabassum Architects developed the Khudi Bari (Bengali for “small house”) in 2020. It responds to a condition of prolonged uncertainty in which people often spend years navigating loss, displacement, and new beginnings. The house offers a minimum of shelter and stability.
