Reduce/Reuse/Recycle > International is an exhibition on architectonic reuse projects and transformation strategies, sharing an affirmative attitude towards the existing. Curated by Muck Petzet, Professor for Sustainable Design at the Accademia di architettura-USI, the show is a follow-up research and exhibition project to the German contribution to the 13th Venice Biennale in 2012.

The exhibition project Reduce/Reuse/Recycle > International is implementing a system of values from the waste management into the field of architecture, showing best practice from around the globe, and questioning attitudes and preconceptions in architecture: could it be that, also when dealing with existing buildings and situations, reduction and avoidance are the first choice followed by reuse and recycling? Are there something like "avoidance strategies" in the field of architecture? How can we make sure that the multilayered resources, stored and accumulated in the building stock, can be made useful and sustainable for the next generations? Will the growing engagement of architects in transformation projects also lead to a transformation of the self-image of architects, from the author-architect-designer to a developer-programmer and enabler?

The exhibition features works by Brandlhuber+ Emde, Burlon, Berlin / Architecten de Vylder Vinck Taillieu, Gent / UTC, Mendrisio / Lacaton & Vassal Architectes, Paris / Sergison Bates Architects, London, Zurich, EM2N, Zurich / NODE, Shenzen, Honkong / Boesch Architekten, Zurich and Wim Goes Architectuur, Gent - all presented in a large scale installation with photographs taken for the exhibition by dutch photographer Erica Overmeer.

An additional section with projections of material collected and researched by the students of the Accademia presents about 40 projects from all around the world - highlighting the potentials of reuse and demonstrating its implementation in practice by showing different strategies and their application.
