This Is Not a Church

The European nomadic biennial Manifesta is taking place in the Ruhr region this year. Rather than using traditional exhibition venues, the project focuses on abandoned churches as potential spaces for community, culture, and neighborhood life. In conversation with Christian Hiller, Sascha Kellermann, and Renée Tribble, the curator Markus Ambach, a member of the Manifesta 16 Ruhr initiating group, Josep Bohigas, architect, urbanist, and author of the Urban Vision for Manifesta 16, and Hedwig Fijen, founding director of Manifesta and director of Manifesta 16, discuss the role of art in urban transformation and the impact such a project might have for the region.
