Territorial Reshaping

The map presents the Ruhr region as a historically layered infrastructure landscape. In ten-year intervals, it traces the development of transport and water networks since the early nineteenth century; in forty-year intervals, it maps mining and steel sites, logistics hubs, university locations, and future-oriented economic centers. What stands out is the densification of spatial interconnections since the early 20th century: with industrial expansion, a dense network of corridors, junctions, and production sites emerged that continues to shape the region’s spatial structure.
