Lectures on history of the new architecture IV

The lectures of this term appear under the title „Social and technical developments in the Nineteenth Century." The title implies, that this time we had to deal with developments transcending the limits of what is commonly called architecture. Since Sigfried Giedion in „Space, Time and Architecture" has laid the foundations for an architectural history of our own time, this has become common practice. The industrial revolution involved the architect in a double problem: that he had to think in terms of dwellings and working places for the common man; and that he had to assimilate new building techniques...
