Professor of Architectural Theory in Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg is recruiting for the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education a Professor of Architectural Theory (M/F). Application deadline: January 15, 2012.

The professor should do research in architectural theory and scientific research in architecture in urbanism, i.e. research on the conditions in which architecture and urbanism are produced.
The professor will have to cooperate within the IPSE (Identités. Politiques, Sociétés, Espaces) research unit by integrating existing research projects or by initiating new projects in relation to spatial development, urban policies and sustainability. The professor should also possibly be integrated within research projects at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication in cooperation with the engineers.
The professor will be expected to teach architecture theory and history, architecture and/or urban research oriented towards research based design within the Master. He will organise and coordinate the Master programme.
The Professor’s principal teaching obligations will be in the newly launched Master of Architecture.
It is further expected, in light of the existing division of responsibilities, that the professor will assume an important role in the development of doctoral training. This may include coordination of the postgraduate seminars within a potential future doctoral school in architecture.

Your profile

Academic degree in Architecture. PhD in Architecture or Venia Docendi.
•An appropriate international research profile as evidenced by peer-reviewed international publications, conference participation, and the assumption of leadership roles in research initiatives
•International university-level teaching experience in architecture, architecture history and theory, architecture, urban and research oriented design; postgraduate level teaching experience
•Experience of acquiring and managing externally funded research projects
•A proven track record of successful PhD supervision
•Experience of working and/or studying in different national university systems is desirable
•Active in international networks and willing to make this network available for the University of Luxembourg
•Administrative experience.
Languages
The professor will be a member of an international, multilingual research team, will teach an international student body, and will coordinate international guest lecturers. A demonstrable ability to contribute fully to an English taught study programme is essential. A willingness to learn at least one of the other official languages of the University is required.
